IDAHO GETAWAY

Living in Colorado now has been both an adventure and a challenge.

Solo travel exploring my new home state has been the biggest joy of all
but when it came to the Holidays I knew I was ready to get away.
Thankfully my brother and his family are a bit closer to me now, so off to
Idaho I went for a went for a welcomed break.

Idaho is a state with stunning beauty that many aren’t even aware of.
Like Colorado, there are vast mountainous landscapes, outdoor recreation areas
and over 4 million acres of wilderness.
Thanksgiving morning it is family tradition to take in an early morning hike to an
area called Table Rock.  A mountain pillar just southeast of downtown Boise,
the hike begins on the grounds of the old Idaho State Penitentiary,
and at the top features a 60 foot cross.

The day was grey and chilly, and the main trailhead was closed due to mud, but that
didn’t stop us from finding our way to the top

The gloomy atmosphere walking around the empty grounds of the old Penitentiary
seemed to match the mood of the weather but we didn’t mind.  There was
lively conversation with my niece and nephews about
what life was like when it was active, and a great reminder to not get into trouble 😉

The view at the top, looking over all of Boise and the surrounding
mountains is so serene you just slow down…taking in the colors, sounds
and diverse landscapes.

Thankfully my brothers children like to hang out with their cool aunt (well most of them 😉)
and even want to share their music.

And just like that, our Thanksgiving became an amazing day and all before 10 am!

Till next time…

Xx
